Klinikum Bremerhaven-Reinkenheide gGmbH is a modern acute care hospital operated by the city of Bremerhaven. As a full-service hospital with approximately 2,500 employees, 833 beds, 16 clinics, two institutes, and a medical care center, we are the largest hospital in the Lower Weser region. Each year, we treat approximately 27,000 inpatients and approximately 3,700 day patients. During the same period, we also provide outpatient care to approximately 40,000 patients and treat approximately 46,000 emergency cases.
Healthcare needs a future, which is why we are one of the largest training institutions in Bremerhaven, an academic teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Göttingen, and a cooperation and practice partner for numerous other degree programs in medicine, nursing, and business administration.

Our History
The Klinikum Bremerhaven-Reinkenheide Hospital was founded in 1976, at that time under the name Zentralkrankenhaus Reinkenheide (ZKR). Since its founding, the number of buildings, services, beds, and employees has grown steadily. The hospital’s floor space alone has increased by more than a third. New specialized clinics and institutes have been established and expanded.
Efforts were not limited to medical care alone, as services and a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere have become increasingly important to our patients. For this reason, the facility underwent a renovation beginning in 1998, setting a new standard for ambiance, culture, and comfort in an acute care hospital.
In the 2000s, construction projects aimed at environmental and climate protection were launched at the hospital. These included the installation of building automation and building management systems. The new psychiatric wing, which opened in 2010, set new standards in patient-centered redesign. In 2013, the hospital complex was further expanded with the addition of the medical center.
The new helipad was completed at the end of 2018. The hospital has also continued to expand its medical services in recent years: In 2020, the KBR assumed responsibility for pediatric and neonatal care. At the same time, the expansion wing of the Treatment Center for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, and Psychosomatics began operations. In 2024, another wing was completed: “Building K” is the new home of the pediatric clinic and cardiology department.

Since January 1, 2020, the Bremerhaven-Reinkenheide Hospital has been a member of the CLINOTEL hospital network.
